METAL PAINTING

Which metal painting method to choose?

Different metal painting techniques

Let’s discuss the differences, pros and cons of powder coating and wet painting techniques.

Powder coating

This is a modern and very popular method of metal painting. Different metals such as steel, aluminium, copper, brass, galvanised metal, etc. can be painted with this technique.

The principle of powder coating is to spray a specially prepared, dry powder paint onto the surface of the metal. The powder-coated metal is then heated at a temperature of 160–200 degrees Celsius for approximately 10–20 minutes, which hardens the paint. This painting technique ensures good adhesion and even coverage.

The main advantages of powder coating:

Environmentally friendly: the paint composition is extremely safe and environmentally friendly. It does not contain volatile organic compounds, other aggressive chemical impurities or solvents, only bright paint pigments enriched with binding agents that ensure a long-lasting result.

Good protection: compared to the wet painting technique, powder coatings have better anti-corrosive properties, increasing the resistance of the metal to damage caused by moisture, weather, and other atmospheric agents. The surface is less susceptible to mechanical damage and scratches, and the paint layer does not wear off for a long time, does not chip and remains bright over the years.

Fast turnaround time: powder coating can be applied in just a few hours. This saves you time! However, it is important to note that when coating a larger or more complex metal structure, it has to be disassembled.

A wide choice of colours: modern metal coating solutions can be unique. With powder coating, you will have a wide choice of colours and textures. We will help you get the aesthetic you are looking for! The coated surface can be glossy, matt, semi-glossy or textured.

Wet painting

This is a traditional, technically simpler method, recommended in cases where a metal product or part that is susceptible to high heat is being painted. It is also ideal for larger or non-standard shapes and dimensions of metal structures.

The procedure of wet painting involves cleaning the surface of the metal, removing dust, grease and other dirt. The wet paint is then sprayed onto the surface using a special high-pressure technology and left to dry. Once dry, additional coats of paint can be applied to the surface as required.

The main advantages of the wet painting:

Simplicity: unlike powder coating, large or non-standard metal structures can be painted without taking them apart. The result of wet painting can be easily adjusted to best meet the customer’s expectations. Painting can be done both indoors and outdoors.

No need for heat: wet painting does not involve heat treatment, making it ideal for heat-sensitive products. Ensures a uniform coating and good adhesion to the surface!

Many colour options: many colours and finishes to choose from (matt, gloss, etc.). Wet painting technique is particularly recommended if you want to achieve a glossy finish.
